Philadelphia Travel Information

Designed by William Penn, the city of Philadelphia held the distinction as America's largest city until 1830. The core of the central business district bound by South Street, the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, and Vine Street composed the original Philadelphia as laid out by Penn. Although limited by a charter in 1789, the city of Philadelphia consolidated all of Philadelphia County to form the present city limits in 1854.
Rich in history from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the Ratification of the U.S. Constitution, the City of Brotherly Love offers a wide array of historical, cultural, and entertainment attractions. Home to major league sports franchises in baseball (Philadelphia Phillies), football (Philadelphia Eagles), basketball (Philadelphia 76ers), and hockey (Philadelphia Flyers), Philadelphia represents a hearth for athletic competition. The annual Army-Navy Game also calls Philadelphia home, pitting the Navy MidShipmen and the Army Black Knights in the Fall Classic.
